Lake Tanganyika Cichlids represent a diverse group of nearly 200 species, each uniquely adapted to life within the lake's confines. Lake Tanganyika is one of the world's oldest and deepest lakes, teeming with a rich array of cichlid species. Their temperaments vary widely, from very peaceful to quite aggressive. These cichlids have evolved to exploit every feeding niche, consuming everything from algae and shrimp to the scales and fins of other fish. Although they vary in size, many species do not exceed 20cm/7.8” in length, making them ideal for aquariums. Among the notable species are the 'Julies' (Julidochromis spp.). Lake Tanganyika Cichlids thrive in temperatures of 74-82°F, a pH of 7.5 to 9.4, and a general hardness (GH) of 160-322. The carbonate hardness (KH) should range from 179-240. These parameters can vary significantly depending on the cichlid species.
